Lucky to be a writer these days.

You young writers don’t know how good you have it.  My first attempt at selling a novel (1963) was frustrating.  It had taken me three months of one finger at a time typing to turn my hand written prose into an over two hundred page novel.

The publisher liked it, but wanted some changes in the second chapter.  This meant that I had to retype from that chapter on.  I was teaching full time, had a second job, and was raising a house full of kids.  I wouldn’t have to wait until the next summer to have even a smattering of time.

A few years ago a book I had completed needed some revisions and in a few day it was completed.  Thank God for technology.  Although when I have accidentally deleted articles (even an entire book),panic ensued. My take on that though is that I tend to believe rewriting it usually makes it better.  (I’m excellent at rationalizing anything!)

ABUSES of POWER

It's trite to remind people that power is abused.  Everyone has experienced it. Yet, it continues in all spheres of our lives.  My expertise is as a parent and teacher.  In ABUSES of POWER in EDUCATION: Challenging Practically Everything, I give numerous examples of how everyone, teachers, parents, administrators, and students abuse their power.  I don't just expose or complain, but I offer doable solutions for each to BALANCE power and give sufficient power to each group so that it can be reasonably accountable for its members' actions. I call my type of classroom (which I've created from 1st grade to university) the Self-Sustaining Classroom.  It is a place where everyone feels safe, knows that others care, and each can achieve to his/her potentials.  It's not easy to do, but it is worth the effort,
